In a 2014 study at the University of California, Los Angeles, researchers found that resveratrol prevented the formation of acne. This powerful, natural antioxidant hunts down and destroys acne-causing free radicals in your body, and also protects your sebum from oxidizing and causing blocked pores. It also reduces inflammation by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid activates a factor in the body known as AP-1, which produces enzymes that digest damaged collagen, helping to erase acne scars and blemishes.
Grape Seed Extract
Grape seed extract helps protect the collagen and elastin found in the skin cells. According to a Harvard Medical School publication, the linoleic acid found in the extract serves as an emollient, or an agent that smooths the skin, fills in the spaces between skin cells, and clears acne-prone skin. It also prevents the aging process, not only helping clear acne, but also keeping skin looking younger.
Pine Bark Extract
Pine bark extract comes from specific forests located in southwestern France. The bark contains high concentrations of bioflavanoids, which are powerful antioxidants. These bioflavonoids help keep skin healthy by fighting off free radicals that cause acne. Pine bark is also proven to improve circulation and reduce inflammation, which can reduce the appearance of acne.
Zinc deficiency has been linked to acne since the 1970s. Zinc helps to reduce inflammation; kills Propionibacterium acnes, the main bacteria associated with the disease, and produces changes in the skin environment that make it more hostile to this bacterium for a longer time.
Folic Acid acts as an anti-inflammatory which helps reduce redness and rosacea.
Vitamin A is believed to maintain healthy eyes and skin. This is the primary reason for the development of isotretinoin, the active chemical form of vitamin A used in Accutane. However, the natural forms, or more specifically the carotene forms of it (e.g. beta-carotene), found in ClearettoTM are not toxic and pose no side effects.
Vitamin B6 is essential for the proper metabolism of steroid hormones and may reduce the sensitivity of skin to the effects of testosterone (the main cause of acne) thus drastically reducing the possibility of your body producing acne.
Vitamin D directly affects your sebum-producing cells, by creating cathelicidin and defensins. These proteins have antibacterial properties that lead to a reduction in oil.
Studies have suggested that oral vitamin E supplements may help relieve acne. As an anti-oxidant, vitamin E protects fats in the body from oxidation and also eliminates free radicals that can damage the skin.
